The modern day art of abseiling originates from the Frenchman Jean Estéril Charlet. He made many solo attempts to climb the Petit Dru. The Petit Dru is one of the six great north faces of the Alps. After Charlet’s first unsuccessful attempt at the climb he devised the technique of roping back down. This was way back in 1876. Charlet did eventually reach the summit of the Petit Dru in 1879. He had hired two other guides to accompany him. It was during that ascent that Charlet did in fact perfect the abseil.
Since then the technique has been used worldwide and is used for a variety of reasons. Some of which include rescues and adventure, and eventually the process of abseiling window cleaning was born.
When the abseiling technique is used for window cleaning, it is advisable that the window cleaning technician has had some IRATA(Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) training. IRATA has member companies on every continent and their successful training is based on in depth training and extremely strict guidelines. These guidelines are the structure of unmatched safe working record.
The use of abseiling in the window cleaning industry has increased as it can be more cost effective than installing large machinery onto the exterior of the roof. In addition to which, professional window cleaning companies use the abseiling technique as it allows them access to windows that could otherwise prove to be extremely difficult or totally impossible to access.
All Clean Services employ IRATA professionally trained rope access technicians and because of this we can guarantee our work is of the highest possible standard.
