From a Health & Safety point of view, hopefully you are looking where you are going. However, there are times when it’s advisable to turn your eyes towards the floor and have a good hard look at the carpets.
Are they stained, dirty or discoloured? Do they look dusty in the corners? Are there sticky marks that aren’t being removed by a vacuum cleaner? If you answer yes to any of these questions, it’s about time they were given a new lease of life.
This can easily be achieved by a professional clean. But it’s what you don’t see in the carpets that can be worse.
Hiding in the pile are
- Dust mites
- Pollen grains
- Dead skin cells
- Bacteria including salmonella, shigella, listeria, pneumonia and e-coli
- VOCs (volatile organic compounds)
To top it all off, did you know that bacteria can live for up to 4 weeks on carpets?
Most manufacturers recommend that carpets are professionally cleaned by a qualified technician every 12-18 months. Professional cleaning removes the ingrained dirt, mites and bacteria, extends the life of the carpets, removes stains and makes the carpet and your office smell so much fresher.
The 2 main methods of carpet cleaning
1. Dry Cleaning
Not all types of carpet are suitable for traditional wet carpet cleaning due to the risk of shrinkage or seam splitting, so dry cleaning is the best options for these floor coverings.
Most of the deeply embedded dirt in a carpet is dry, so the carpets will be vacuumed with powerful, commercial equipment and individual stains will be spot treated.
The remaining grease and dirt is removed with our dry extraction equipment. The immediate benefit is that the carpet is immediately usable as there is no drying time, furniture does not need to be removed from the area and staff do not need to be relocated, so no work disruption.
2. Hot Water (steam cleaning)
Hot water cleaning doesn’t actually involve steam due to the risk of carpet shrinkage, but uses hot water mixed with specialist cleaning chemicals which are sprayed onto the carpet surface.
The water is immediately vacuumed out of the carpet via a wet vacuum cleaner, removing the dirt that has been loosened by the cleaning chemicals and hot water.
The immediate removal of the water from the carpet helps it dry straight away, but the area will be covered at least twice more to remove any additional water.
After this, the carpet will be left slightly damp and will take 2-3 hours to dry. You will immediately notice how much cleaner and fresher smelling the carpets are.
